This day I have two findings that add substance to our heritage. The first is a land record of the farm bought by James Lee in 1853, in Fawn Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. (find bottom of page 2 of "Our Lee Family" in the index of HISTORY AND GENEALOGY OF THE "OLD" FAMILY)
From money borrowed from his cousin William Wright, the land was purchased from the estate of Joshua Elder to whom the land was "patented" by the Supreme Executive Council of PA in 1786. This Supreme Executive Council of PA would be in today's terminology the Pennsylvania State Legislature. This Legislature at one time met at Independence Hall in Philadelphia, PA., the same place the Continental Congress met during our American Revolution. So it's likely the "patent" was granted by the PA State Congress which met in the same building! Records of Land Office in the PA State Archives gave up the information on the farm called "Retreat". ( You can find the document on the "Latest Documents" page from the Index at the left. )
The second "finding" is the marriage record of Robert James Old/Amy Ethel Hough. Robert James Old is the first son of James Lee Old/Anna G. Andrew. He was a Dentist in Pittsburgh, PA, and went by the name "Dr. Burt". He was married at least twice (and I think 3x) with Amy Ethel Hough being his first wife, who died in 1907. Her father was Samuel Hough, a Reverend. Through out her life Amy Ethel Hough went by her middle name Ethel. (Find this document on the "Latest Documents" page).
