I did research on the George L. Woodard genealogy. Geo L. Woodard was the father of our grandmother, Joy Belle Old (Woodard). I tried to follow the recordings of Grandma & my Dad (find the recordings on the "Photo Page"). I can say everything she talks about is true! Between all the chatter what she tells us about the Woodards coming to Macomb, Mich. from N.Y., then to Litchfield, Homer and finally to Toledo, Ohio are all true.
It's too bad Uncle Dale can't see this research. He did a lot of work trying to find information on the Woodard's.
I put all the information on a new page in the index, "George L. Woodard Family" page. I could not find house numbers/streets they lived in or the exact location of the market and newspaper.
I also have more information using the 1845 Mary Lee letter. I found early maps, history on the Great Fire of Pittsburgh, early Directories and info on the names mention in the letter. All these things pinpoint closely where James/Mary Old lived 1845-1850. The area they lived in is close to the "Point" (Point State Park-aka "Golden Triangle" at the confluence of 3 rivers, Allegheny, Monongahela, Ohio and the location of Fort Pitt/Duquesne. My wife & I walked this on our visit to Pittsburgh. We did not know at the time, that we were walking in the "footsteps" of our ancestors. It's nice to know I was in their neighborhood!!
Look for this info soon. AND DON'T FORGET THE OLD FAMILY REUNION, SUNDAY, AUGUST 25, 2013. FIND MORE INFO IN THE "ANNOUNCEMENT & EVENTS" PAGE.
